Las Vegas Happy Hours This Week: Sushi Two Ways and a $30 Filet

Three Las Vegas happy hours this week: filet mignon meatballs at Gaetano’s, $9 hand rolls at Blue Ribbon Sushi and $2 sushi at Other Mama.

This week takes you from Green Valley Ranch to a strip mall on Durango, with a stop for meatballs in between. Two of these spots are sushi. One is old school Italian. All three are the kind of happy hour you text your friends about. Here’s where to go, when to get there and what to order.

Gaetano’s Happy Hour

Gaetano’s happy hour in Henderson
  • Where: Henderson, S Eastern Ave
  • Deals: $10 meatballs, $12 fried lasagna, $10 Sicilian Old Fashioned
  • When: Daily, 4 to 6 p.m. in the bar. Reverse happy hour daily, 8 to 9 p.m.

Gaetano’s gives you two shots at a deal every night. The first one starts at 4 p.m. in the bar. Order the meatballs. They’re made with filet mignon, veal and pork, and you get two for $10. Next, the fried lasagna for $12. You won’t find it at any other happy hour in Henderson. In a pasta mood? The rigatoni alla vodka is $12 and made with Tito’s. Ask for Calabrian chili if you like a little heat. Your second shot comes at 8 p.m. For one hour, full dinner entrées are half off when you order a drink. That turns the $60 filet into a $30 filet. Same steak. Half the price. Good timing pays.

Blue Ribbon Sushi Happy Hour

Blue Ribbon Sushi happy hour at Green Valley Ranch
  • Where: Henderson, Green Valley Ranch
  • Deals: $9 hand rolls, $8 cocktails, $8 wine and sake
  • When: Mon to Fri, 3:30 to 6 p.m. Sat and Sun, 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Blue Ribbon started in New York and made its name on really good fish. The Green Valley Ranch spot keeps that same standard, even at happy hour. Hand rolls are $9 each and come five ways: spicy tuna, salmon avocado, spicy crab, spicy scallop and kanikama California. Cocktails, wine and sake are all $8. The real secret is the clock. On weekends, happy hour starts at 11:30 a.m., so a long sushi lunch totally counts. Want a sneak peek at Nov 12? Blue Ribbon is bringing spicy tuna hand rolls, chicken yakitori skewers and a Kyoto Old Fashioned to the Biggest Happy Hour in Las Vegas.

Other Mama Happy Hour

Other Mama happy hour in Southwest Las Vegas
  • Where: Southwest, S Durango Dr
  • Deals: $2 sushi, $5 hand rolls, $10 cocktails
  • When: Tue to Sun, 5 to 6 p.m. Late night Fri and Sat, 10 p.m. to midnight

Don’t let the strip mall fool you. Other Mama is one of the best seafood spots in the Southwest, and there’s no casino in sight. The raw bar plates are creative, and the cocktails are a lot more serious than the easygoing room lets on. At happy hour, sushi starts at $2 and hand rolls are $5. Add the crispy pork skewers or the Japanese fried chicken, then a cocktail made with Japanese whisky or mezcal. Look around and you’ll spot local chefs on their night off. That’s the best review a restaurant can get. The early happy hour is only one hour, so show up at 5 if you want a bar seat. Night owl? Come back Friday or Saturday from 10 p.m. to midnight.
